How to Install Your Rear Bumper

How to Install Your Rear Bumper

Time to install your new rear bumper! Follow the instructions below to do it yourself.

Helpful Tools You Might Need

  • Small flat-head screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • A socket
  • WD-40

Remove Your Rear Bumper

  1. Disconnect the car’s negative battery cable.
  2. Right underneath the rear bumper, there should be a line of small screws on the edge of the bumper. Remove all screws that you see there. If any screws are difficult to remove, apply some WD-40 to them, and then try again.
  3. Remove all screws from the top corners of the rear bumper.
  4. Detach all screws from your rear fender that are connected to your rear bumper.
  5. Most screws to remove the rear bumper are on the outside of the car, but some are inside the trunk. Open your trunk and remove any screws that are attached to the bumper.
  6. Finally, remove any fasteners/clips that are still attaching your rear bumper to your vehicle. You will need to cut these off or remove them with a clip remover tool. The bumper can then be released by just pulling the bumper off the vehicle.
  7. Remove your reflectors and any accessories such as fog lights from your rear bumper.

Important Notes

Save all screws and bolts from the removal of your bumper for the installation of your new bumper.

Install Your Rear Bumper

  1. Reattach all screws from your bumper to your vehicle, starting with the sides of your bumper. Begin attaching the top and bottom of your rear bumper to your vehicle by reattaching all screws.
  2. If you must attach any screws in your trunk, reattach those now as well.
  3. Check that your rear bumper is correctly aligned and tighten the screws.
  4. Reattach all fasteners and clips from your vehicle to your rear bumper.
  5. Reattach your reflectors and any accessories such as fog lights from your old rear bumper to your new rear bumper. Reconnect the battery cables.
